It seems this time of year, every time you turn around, there is always another holiday party or get together to go to. Today, I want to share 2 of my go to holiday apps for the mom on the go (as in, this needs to happen fast, we are running late) that everyone will love. As well, make sure to check out the wonderful apps from a few other Kentucky Bloggers as well. Y’all know we like to entertain in the south.
As a mom of a little one, I have to find items I can make quickly and do not require a lot of steps. Neither of these recipes are new but they do have little twists that are my own.
Sweet and Sassy Pigs in a Blanket
I like things with a little hidden kick. For instance, my holiday cookie has an amazing little kick at the end. The same goes for my version of Pigs in a Blanket.
Here is what you will need:
- 2 packages of Lil Smokies
- 2 cans of Crescent Rolls
- 1 C. Brown Sugar
- 1/4 – 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
This recipe is totally customizable. Add the 1/4 tsp for less of a kick or 1/2 tsp for more. If you are really brave and want to go all out, 1 tsp of cayenne pepper may be your thing.
First, mix the brown sugar and cayenne pepper in a bowl and set aside. Make sure you have mixed it well!
Drain the lil smokies and pat with a paper towel to get excess moisture off.
Once that is done, open your crescent rolls and lay them flat on a section of wax paper on your counter. Go ahead and separate the sections and set to one side of your wax paper.
Take one section and cut into strips. Then, one by one, roll a little smoky in the brown sugar/cayenne mixture and roll up in the strip of crescent roll.
Preheat oven to 375°.
Cut a piece of wax paper to fit your cookie sheet. This helps to make clean up a bit easier. Place the pigs in a blanket on the cookie sheet and sprinkle a little plain brown sugar on the top.
Bake until golden brown.
Sweet and Sassy Bacon Wrapped Lil Smokies
This is just a little different take on the above recipe. The day I made these, I was truly in such a hurry that I only got one pic of it.
What you will need:
- 2 pack of Lil Smokies
- 2lbs of Bacon
- 1 C. Brown Sugar
- 1/4- 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
Mix brown sugar and cayenne pepper well and set aside.
Cut bacon into quarters. Wrap the bacon pieces around the little smokies and secure with a toothpick.
Once you have a pan full pieced together, dip them into the brown sugar mixture to lightly coat. You do not want too much brown sugar or it will coat the bacon wrapped weenie and make it too sticky.
Bake in an oven preheated to 350° until the bacon is cooked. Depending upon the thickness of the bacon, you may need to turn them half way through cooking.
I hope that you have enjoyed the recipes and take a look at the delish recipes below!
